disaster is basically earthquake with today's technology and movie making. they utilize a green screen and those sort of new special effects tools in the preshow. The subway part is basically the same with the new addition of the video monitors in which The Rock co-stars with you, that's right you! The trailer for a feature length film is being shot and you are a part of it. After the shoot (Subway ride experience) on your way back to the station you get to watch yourself on the screen in the same movie as The Rock.

I love the idea, have rode it, and had a friend actually get me in before it opened since he was one of the head people in charge of installations and other stuff that needed to be done. Well, i  liked it, I'm sure you will too if you liked earthquake before

I'm looking forward to seeing this "updated" attraction.  So glad I taped the entire Earthquake experience from start to finish, great memory keepsake!

And yes, that video will be uploaded soon...  ;)

I can't believe they updated this attraction - I guess it was due for an "face lift" but still...  I only just started liking this attraction back in 2005 (I first rode it back in 1992 and was so terrified by it that I stayed away until 2005, when I rode it as a "dare" from my mom).  I guess I will have to ride Disaster! whenever we decide to go back to Orlando.

When i went on it last summer, i volunteered to be the stunt guy that "falls" from the ceiling lol

It was good fun, got to see backstage n all, and i gave a theatrical performance, crawling on the floor and screaming in agony! When he asked if i was okay i screamed I NEED A DOCTOR, and he was like HE'S OKAY EVERYBODY lol

Unfortuantely the train wasnt working that day, broke down just before we were due to go on :(

When I rode Earthquake with my father in 2006, I got picked to be in the large-scale model preshow.  I got to be one of the the captains of the sub.  Just stand around and look stupid.  LOL.

I prefer it when they had the escalator instead of the sub, and when they had the complete set from the movie EARTHQUAKE in the pre-show room.

I also preferred the longer movie sequence with Charlton Heston, instead of the clips they show from several movies showing how special effects (blue screen, minitatures, CGI etc) are used

I only "saw" the original preshow once (in 1992) - it was partly what freaked me out.  That and the fact that I was only 9 years old and didn't quite understand what a earthquake was because we don't get earthquakes here in Kentucky.

Well today marks another day that I got to enjoy disaster, among other rides at USF.
I volunteered to be one of the three bad guys, well it was fun. For the first time today I got to see the train video work.
It was pretty cool with all the stunts we did in the pre-show put into it.

The best part though was the grandma that volunteered and the clip they put her in at the end.
NOTE: If you are coming with family including a grandma, volunteer for her to go up and do the role of a granny.
You will seriously almost die laughing at what they do to the clip, it was great!!!

Anyone have any specific questions about the ride/show?

Is the attraction basically the same as Earthquake, going to each different room?  Hmmm, I wanna know more but then again I don't want to spoil it when I ride it for the first time, lol

The attraction is basically the same. You still go to different rooms. The first being a debriefing room, second being the introduction to the "blockbuster shoot", and the third being where the selected audience members participate. After those rooms you obviously are going to go on the train ride into the "Disaster". The train is the same plus the added on-board video display's and video cameras. On your way out you get to see the finished product that you witnessed being shot throughout the rooms and the final train ride. Enjoy the grandma scene in the final video that you see on the train :)

I do miss Earthquake. I haven't been to USF or to Florida since 2006, so i haven't seen the new stuff they have. I will miss Earthquake and will remember the time i got picked for the stunt part with the escalator, good memories :P

Last time we went in Sept 2007, they were only running the subway, made for a better ride!
